The residential carpet cleaning process is a crucial part of maintaining a healthy and inviting home atmosphere. In this post, our trusted carpet cleaning company, Aero Carpet Services will tell you how to know when it’s time to clean your carpets, what are the benefits, and how is the professional carpet cleaning process.
The first thing you should know, is who is Aero Carpet Services LTD?
At Aero Carpet Services we have been cleaning carpets, area rugs, and upholstery since 1976. We have a highly trained and experienced team (some of our technicians have up to 30-40 years of experience!) that help us deal with all sizes, stains, and fabrics of carpets, rugs, and upholstery. Knowing this, let’s go through everything you need to know about professional carpet cleaning!
Signs that will help you know when it is time to clean your carpet
The first and most important thing to know is how to recognize whether it is time to clean your carpet.
Do you remember the last time you had your carpets professionally cleaned? If you don’t, it’s probably because it’s been a long time and that’s the first sign that tells you that they need a refresh!
“Most carpet manufacturers recommend professional carpet cleaning at least once every 12-18 months.”
This is because, even if there are no visible stains; dirt, oils, bacteria, and allergens get trapped in the carpet. Even if you have vacuumed your carpet frequently, after a year all this accumulated dirt needs the professional’s high-powered machinery to be removed.
Other signs to recognize when it is important to call in professional carpet cleaners:
- If you have pets your carpets will get dirty more quickly because of all the dirt they can bring in from outside on their paws plus the hairs that get trapped in the carpet.
- If you smoke in your home.
- If you have children.
- Whenever there are stains, unless you are trained to deal with them, it is best to call in a professional to clean them safely as soon as possible.
- You start to notice that your carpet has bad odours.
- Your carpet is placed in high-traffic areas.
Benefits of professional carpet cleaning
If you meet any of the above signs, it’s time to give your carpet a refresh! Here are the key benefits of making this decision:
- Healthier environment
- Extend the life of your carpet
- Remove carpet stains
- Removes soiling from high traffic areas
- Effective and eco-friendly products
- Chemical-free moth, Teflon, and pet urine treatment
What is the residential carpet cleaning process?
For residential carpet cleaning, the method we use is hot water extraction although it is sometimes mistakenly known as steam cleaning. This is the most powerful method for deep cleaning your carpets and removing stains.
The process:
- On arrival, we start by doing a quick survey of the areas to be cleaned, identify spots that may need extra attention or specialty spot cleaners, discuss with the homeowner what furniture (if any) will get moved. If we aren’t familiar with the home, we will also determine the fibre content of the carpet.
- Next, we will begin setting up our equipment, protecting corners in the home with plastic corner guards, and laying out drop sheets to protect flooring that we are not cleaning.
- Once our equipment is set up, we will pre-treat some of the carpet with a carpet pre-spray. We do this a bit ahead of time to give the product some time to work prior to rinsing it out. The purpose of the pre-spray is to help emulsify the oily soils so that they can be rinsed out with water. It is important for us to clean the carpet before the pre-spray dries so, in some cases not all of the carpet will be treated at the same time – depending on the size of the home.
- We will then begin to clean the carpet. Hot Water Extraction sprays hot water onto the carpet and simultaneously “extracts” or vacuums the water, pre-spray, and soil. We also perform an extra dry pass (no additional water sprayed onto the carpet), to remove the majority of the emulsified soil and water. Our rinse water does contain a rinsing agent that helps in rinsing and neutralizing the carpet.
- If there is furniture to move, we will do that, clean under, and put it back in place with plastic pads or styrofoam blocks to protect the carpet and furniture.
- Once we have cleaned all of the carpet, we will pack up our equipment, remove the corner guards & drop sheets, and let the homeowner know if there are any areas of concern.
