Street Car Runner

This rug is based on a streetcar scroll that listed destinations along the
Number 18 route in Vancouver.

Streetcar service along the Main to Hastings stretch began in 1891, with the stretch between Main and 16th Avenue added in 1902 as service was extended to the Mount Pleasant district.
The scroll itself dates from about 1950-1955.

The number of cars on Vancouver's streets almost doubled between 1946 and 1950 and then doubled again by 1960. The last streetcar ran on April 24, 1955.
